The Department Council programs and manages the activities of the Department. Inter alia the Council:

a)   establishes the criteria for the use of funds and space allocated to the Department;
b)   approves the Regulation of the Department, in accordance with the University Regulations;
c)   approves, in accordance with the University personal plan, the proposal for recruitment of professors or researchers, as well as of administrative staff, to submit to the Academic Senate and the Board of Turin University;
d)   approves calls or transfers of teachers and researchers;
e)   approves the proposals to activate or desactivate degree programs; also approves the proposals to activate or to modify the PhD program of the Department;
f)     decides on the allocation of teaching responsibilities in the Department;
g)   supervises the good performance and the quality of teaching and research;
h)   approves the personal reports on scientific and teaching activity by professors and researchers;
i)     delivers an opinion on study or research leaves;
j)     promotes the internationalization of teaching and research;
k)   approves interdepartmental research programs on the basis of mutual agreements between the concerned departments;
l)     periodically transmits the University an activity report onr research and teaching.

Members of the Council of the Department, with voting rights, are all Department professors and all researchers. Other members are representatives of the administrative staff, students, PhD students, research fellows and the others identified by the University.
